1. Background
Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let me tell you a bit about myself.

I took my first serious computer class in Kindergarten at the tender age of 5… Let’s be honest here, it was computer camp. Being the child of two working parents, during many a spring break and summer vacation, I found myself enrolled in a local computer camp so my loving mother and father would not have to find a baby sitter. Hence (or sadly), a spread-sheeting prodigy was born!!

After a few more computer camps, an awkward adolescence and a degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Systems Engineering (Class of ’03), I was cast into the cubicles of Corporate America.

After some time in the working world, I awoke one day to find that I had been crowned the preeminent Excel guru at my company (yuck!). This, my friend, was by no means a blessing; as I quickly found myself doing colleagues’ excel work for them (in addition to my own).

It was around this time that the idea for ExcelRainMan.com was born! Why not offer my “Pivot-Table Prowess” to the general public!

It’s no secret that while some people have a desire to learn Excel skills… more often than not, they just want to get the work done taking the path of least resistance.

As the Excel Rain Man, people can send their spreadsheet-related questions/problems and in turn, we bring to the table skills to help with whatever the issue may be.

2. Process
Step 1: You have an excel issue that is ruining your life
Step 2: Submit your question to the Excel Rain Man.

Step 3: The Excel Rain Man responds to your email with:
– any further questions on your request
– cost for your request
– when you can expect an answer

Step 4: Determine whether you want to go to Happy Hour:
– confirm via email that you want the Excel Rain Man’s help
– you will then receive an invoice which you can pay with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discovercard by using PayPal.
Step 5: The Excel Rain Man will send you the solution

Step 6: Leave the office!

3. Excel Rain Man’s Tip – for Excel version 2003 users … sorry 2007 users your tips are coming soon!
Paste Special buttons… why not?
When you want to paste values in Excel, it can be such a pain to:
– Copy (Control C or ) a cell(s)
– Right click
Paste Special
– Click Values
– Click OK

Fear no more my fellow spreadsheeters, save a few clicks by adding some buttons to your customized toolbar. Here is what you need to do:

– Go to the Tools Menu (or right click on a blank spot on your toolbar) and Click Customize
– Go to the Commands Tab
– In Categories, select Edit
– In the Commands box, scroll down
– Highlight the Paste Values button and drag it to your toolbar

– I recommend dragging next to other editing buttons that you use often:

– Don’t hesitate to explore some other buttons that you may want on your newly improved toolbar

Is your toolbar too clogged?
– Click Copy
– Click on the Arrow next to your Paste button
– You can click any of your favorite Paste Special functions!
