Osculator User’s Guide
Getting Started
Direct the pool entrants to download the Oscar Ballots for free from https://excelrainman.com/product-category/tips-tricks/ or send out the Oscar Ballots to anyone who you wish to include in your Oscar Pool. Ask all participants to enter their Name where indicated on the form and make a selection for each Award Category using the available drop-down menus.
When completed, ask the entrants to email their ballots back to the pool manager.
Saving the ballots as unique filenames is highly recommended before emailing back to the manager;
otherwise, the manager will have to change the filenames when they receive the ballots.
Using the OSCulator
Enable Editing & Macros:
When opening the file, make sure you enable the macros and choose a trusted location to avoid the pesky pink “learn more” banner (Having issues doing this? Check out our short video on how to handle it)
Input the ballot form into the OSCulator
Once you start receiving ballot forms back from your friends, we recommend saving them in a centralized folder/location. We also recommend that each file be given a unique name (possibly the submitters’ name) so that you can easily identify each ballot form.
When you are ready to input the ballot form into the OSCulator Results Sheet, click on the button at the top of the spreadsheet which looks like the following:
When you click the button (as long as you have “enabled macros” as noted above, a pop-up should appear. We call this console the Oscar Pool Helper.
The available options (buttons) on the Oscar Pool Helper are as follows:
Input User Forms
Click on this button to add your friends’ ballots to the OSCulator. Remember, the ballot files will need to be saved before they can be uploaded to the OSCulator. To upload a ballot form, simply:
- Click the “Input User Forms” Button – A file dialog box will appear (pictured right), allowing you to find and upload the ballot forms on your computer
- Select the ballot form that you wish to upload by either double-clicking on the file; or highlighting the file and clicking “Save”
- Doing this will automatically add a new sheet/tab to the OSCulator, containing the person’s Oscar selections
Please Note: If you have already uploaded a person’s ballot form (according to the name listed in the Oscar Ballot form in cell C2), another pop-up will appear asking if you want to overwrite the existing data in the OSCulator Results sheet. (You would use this option if someone changed their answers and resubmitted their sheet to you.) Select “Yes” to overwrite or “No” to keep the existing data for the person listed.
Correlate Results
This button will update the OSCulator to display all selections from the uploaded ballot forms. It will also calculate your OSCAR Pool Champion!
- Once you have uploaded all of the ballot forms (using the “Input User Forms” button), clicking the “Correlate Results” button will pull the selections from the uploaded ballot forms and display them below the “Winners” Row.
- As the OSCAR award winners are announced and you enter them into the “Winners” Row, click the “Correlate Results” button to calculate a point total for each participant. You can run this option as many times as you’d like to update the point totals throughout the night (i.e. you can calculate and recalculate the point totals throughout the night as the OSCAR winners are announced!).
Exit
This allows you to view the list without the Oscar Pool Helper. You can always bring the Helper back by clicking on the button at the top of the sheet.
Notes
- It is recommended that all changes to the OSCulator Results Sheet (except for selecting Oscar winners themselves), be done using the Oscar Pool Helper; otherwise the results may not be as expected.
- It is recommended that you save this spreadsheet before closing or your work will be lost.
